Gandhi - Year 1
We are a Year 1 class, our teacher is Ms. Rae, and we have Mrs. Smith on Wednesdays. We also have a wonderful Teaching Assistant, Mrs. Snowball.
Value of the Term - Trust
"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you."
In Gandhi Class we use the 'Talk for Writing' approach which helps us to write by first learning to retell a text out loud, we use story maps and actions to help us with this. Then we can start to write our own individual versions of the text, using our knowledge and imaginations to innovate with our own choices.
We will be working on our spelling skills, recapping our knowledge of phonics from Potter Class and of the 'tricky' words we need to know. Gandhi Class are tested on their spellings weekly.
We teach early reading development through daily lessons and reading comprehension through whole class reading lessons. This term we will be looking at some lovely books, including "Rainbow Fish"
"Six Dinner Sid" and "Ruby's Worry."
In Maths this term we are continuing to consolidate our sense of number, with numbers up to ten, and getting to grips with addition and subtraction.
In Geography this term we will learning all about the geography of our local area.
