5R are continuing with our topic, Ancient Greece. We are so looking forward to our Olympic Workshop on Monday, June 20th. In Literacy the students have written some creative 'potent' potion instructions based on Circe's medical magic. Currently, we are compiling a GREEK GLOSSARY, it's amazing how much we have learned about myths and legends, gods, and the original and modern day Olympics. We have been having a blast learning a love song based on the Trojan War, it is called "Is it Love?"
In Science we are trying to figure out if we have what it takes to become an astronaut. We are looking at the life and adventures of Tim Peake. And we will also be involved in a workshop which has been organised by the European Space Agency.
Sports day is looming and we'll be getting out there on the next fine day to complete our warm up races!
We have two up and coming visits planned to have a taster day at Abbeyfields and John Bentley schools. Information on that to follow.
The Year 5's are thoroughly enjoying the Ancient Greek topic. We have painted Greek Amphoras(urns), these tell us a lot about the daily lifestyle of the Greeks.
We also got creative and doodled a GOOGLE GREECE using many symbols of Greece in our illustrations.
Our persuasive sales advert posters sold many Greek items such as tridents, winged sandals, and a three headed dog costume - perfect for Halloween.
This week has been INVESTIGATION WEEK, and as well as solving many mathematical problems, we have experimented with Bottle Blobs and Exploding Lunch Bags in Science. In Art we were given cardboard boxes and had to come up with a creative theme for our doodle box project!
Literacy Freeze Frame
The students are working on Nursery Rhymes and creating fractured Nursery Rhymes which will be compiled into a book and presented to KS1.
The freeze frames represent the following rhymes:
Hey Diddle Diddle
There was an Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe
Hickory Dickory Dock
Little Miss Muffett
Wee Willie Winkie
Class 5R have thoroughly enjoyed working on Comics in our Literacy Sessions. We have learned about speech bubbles and sound bursts (onomatopoeia). We created our own superhero costume to accompany the superhero profile we wrote about. Our comic strips are very eye catching indeed, and we ended off the unit by writing a poem, ‘Ten Ways To Make Your Superhero Angry’.
